Tucson Soaring Club Partnership

Tucson Soaring Club has been part of the Tucson/Marana communities for many years.  In the past Tucson Soaring Club worked with the University of Arizona's Disability Resource Center to provide inspirational rides to people with various disabilities.  That program ended some years ago due to equipment problems.

We are happy to announce that Freedom's Wings Arizona is helping the Tucson Soaring Club to re-activate this program, and we will be working with the University's Disability Resource Center again.  The Tucson Soaring Club will be providing the sailplanes, commercial pilots, and airport; Freedom's Wings Arizona will provide the funding to pay for the airplane tows for the inspirational rides.   We will be using sailplanes, some with hand rudder controls for those who do not have use of or strength in their legs.  With soaring the use of the sailplane's rudder is critical for efficient soaring and the hand controls gives this control to more people.

By providing inspirational rides to people with both physical and developmental disabilities we can change their lives, for at least a time and sometimes for the rest of their lives.  It can be a break from their normal life or an escape from their wheelchair.
